2007-08 Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are the reigning NFL champs, winning Superbowl XLI on February 4th, 2007. There seems to be only one name that matters this season: Peyton Manning. And besides Manning, the Colts also bring the usual consistency into the season. And they are even improving, adding Anthony Gonzales into the mix - perfect next to Manning on the field. Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark, are all back, and they will continue to dominate. Joseph Adai proved last season that he can definitely play, and will most likely be starter next season. Probably the only dark cloud for fans is the hole left by Booger McFarland, who is out for the year. Losing Nick Harper and Jason David will be tough on the Colts as well. Besides defending their champ status and title, ticket buyers can expect the Colts to beef up their defense this season, as well as make up for the loss of key players. If you are looking for Colts tickets for this exciting season, you are definitely in the right place!
Previous Seasons
The Indianapolis Colts organization is one of the most respected franchises in all of the NFL. The team has long been one of the more successful teams in the league dating back to the days they were in Baltimore. Back in those days, the team housed one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game, Johnny Unitas. These days, the team is led by one of the most gifted quarterbacks of this generation, Peyton Manning. Last season Manning set the single season passing touchdown record by throwing 49 beating the old record by a single score. The record was formerly held by Dan Marino, who owns most of the NFL career passing records, but lacks a Super Bowl ring. The Colts are hoping that Manning doesn’t follow in Marino’s footsteps, a handful of records without any rings adorning that hand. Since his jump into the league the Colts have been trying to surround him with the best fits for him to make it to the big game, but the team has yet to get past the AFC Championship to this point.
In the off-season, the Colts made a few moves to try and get that much closer to capturing their first NFL title since 1970, when players like Unitas and Bubba Smith were roaming the field. They went out and got defensive tackle Cory Simon, who was unexpectedly cut from the Eagles. The Pro Bowl tackle was deemed non-essential when it came time for contract negotiations. The Eagles have a long history of getting rid of guys, no matter who they are, if they feel they aren’t needed. It’s hard to believe since Simon has been one of the best defensive tackles in the league from the time he broke into the NFL in 2000. He is also relatively young and still possesses a tremendous upside.
The team had a big need for help in the secondary; specifically at the corner position. In the draft, they got just that with their first two picks. Their first round choice was the Michigan corner Marlin Jackson. Jackson is a big, strong corner that can pretty much do it all. He’s great working on the outside and has shown an exceptional ability to cover the slot receiver. Jackson has also proven to be very good with his technique and has a knack for rerouting receivers.
The Colts second round pick was also a corner, Illinois cover man Kelvin Hayden. He was one of the more raw corners the draft had to offer, but his physical talents are hard to overlook. He has adequate size for a corner and puts his wide array of physical abilities on display whenever he touches the field. The only setback with Hayden is that he only had one year of experience of playing cornerback at a high level. He lacks a majority of the technique that most corners coming out of the draft had, but with the right coaching staff pushing him to learn these techniques he could turn into something special. The good thing about Hayden is that he can still contribute to the team through special teams, since he has very good speed and is a sound tackler.
